Why Treaties Matter: Self-Government in the Dakota and Ojjibwe Nations is a nationally recognized travelling exhibit that provides an important perspective on the history of Minnesota’s Indigenous peoples through an exploration of the various treaties wich still impact our cotemporary era
The White Bear Lake Area Historical Society is thrilled to share this award-winning exhibit with our community from April 15, 2024 – May 18, 2024 at the White Bear Lake Armory. The exhibit is free to attend.

- Wednesday: 10am – 1pm
- Thursday: 10am – 3pm
- Friday: 10am – 1pm
- Saturday: 10am – 2pm

Why Treaties Matter is a collaboration of the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, the Minnesota Humanities Center and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian. This exhibition was developed with money from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund that was created with a vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, and The Patrick and Aimee Butler Family Foundation.
