Many Faces of the White Bear Lake Area is proud to be partnering with the Minnesota Humanities Center to host a 4-part community conversation series for the broader White Bear Lake Area with the goal of learning and understanding how we experience and recognize racism in our community, how it impacts the community, and how we can educate ourselves to learn and to lead work in creating a more welcoming and inclusive community for all.
We hope you will join us for the following four meetings, but attending all four sessions is not required to participate in the series.
Session 1 – Listen & Learn
o June 24th – 6:30-8:30pm – Location: Armory, 2228 4th Street, White Bear Lake, MN 55110
o This session is designed to give community members an opportunity to listen to and learn from neighbors of color sharing about their experiences of racism in the White Bear Lake Area using a story circle format.
Session 2 – Learn & Lead
o July 29th – 6:30-8:30pm – Location: Vadnais Heights Commons, 655 East Cty Rd F, Vadnais Heights, MN 55127
o Drawing from the stories shared in the first session combined with the opportunity to hear from guest presenters, community members will begin conversations about what they learned and begin brainstorming ideas of how we can eliminate racism in our communities and promote a more welcoming and inclusive community for all.
Session 3 – Lead & Act
o August 19th – 6:30-8:30pm – Location: Vadnais Heights Commons, 655 East Cty Rd F, Vadnais Heights, MN 55127
o Community members will review, discuss, and provide feedback regarding their ideas from session 2. Once reviewed community members will identify what gaps exist and begin to develop action steps for eliminating racism in our communities and promote a more welcoming and inclusive community.
Session 4 – Act
o September 23rd – 6:30-8:30pm – Location: TBD
o Finalize action steps, Tie it to work already happening, how to get involved.
