Ode to my Umi (Reception)

White Bear Center for the Arts is partnering with Emerging Curators Institute (ECI) to present Curatorial Fellow Eshay Brantley’s exhibition: Ode to my Umi.

As the culmination to her 2023-24 ECI fellowship, Brantley envisions Ode to my Umi as a multidisciplinary exhibit that pays homage to Black grandmothers and mothers’ stories, revealing the intergenerational resilience and comfort passed along generation after generation. Artists featured in this exhibition include: Bayou, Donte Collins, Namir Fearce, Ashe Jaafaru, and Precious Wallace of King P. Studio. Mentorship and curatorial support was provided by Sadie Woods, Curatorial and Residency Director at Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Barak adé Soleil, Director of Emerging Curators Institute.

Join us in celebrating Ode to my Umi during the community reception on Thursday, July 11. ASL interpretation will be available. Masking is required in support of disabled and immunocompromised individuals. High quality masks will be distributed as needed.

On display in the Ford Family Gallery June 18-August 2, 2024.
